RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Geraldine Anne Ferraro; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Geraldine Ferraro was nominated by the Democratic Party to run for Vice
President of the United States in 1984, becoming the first woman to be so
nominated on a major party ticket; and
WHEREAS,
she was elected in 1979 from New York's Ninth Congressional District to the
United States House of Representatives for three consecutive terms and was
appointed ambassador to the United Nations in 1993; and
WHEREAS,
as a representative and as an attorney, Geraldine Ferraro has an extensive
record of tireless women's and human rights advocacy, including work on projects
such as the Equal Rights Amendment, the Women's Economic Equity Act, seeking
greater job training and opportunities for displaced homemakers, and creating
the Special Victims Bureau of the Queens County District Attorney's office;
and
WHEREAS,
Geraldine Ferraro continues to be an inspirational and pioneering leader,
communicator, and facilitator of positive growth in this country.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize Geraldine Anne Ferraro, commend her for her outstanding
achievements, and extend to her the best of wishes for her future health and
fulfillment.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Geraldine
Ferraro.
