A RESOLUTION


Commending Robert L. Moore and congratulating him on the occasion of his retirement; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Robert L. Moore is a long-time resident of Hancock County, graduating from Hancock Central High School and earning his Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice in 1974 from Savannah State College; and

WHEREAS, he has spent more than 30 years in the service of Georgia´s Division of Family and Children Services beginning in 1975; and

WHEREAS, he began his career as a case worker and, in 1977, received a much deserved promotion to county director, thereby becoming the first African American to serve as county director for the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services; and

WHEREAS, he also served as director for Baldwin and Taliaferro County DFCS offices; and

WHEREAS, to honor his many accomplishments he has received a myriad of awards and recognitions including being chosen to carry the Olympic Torch in Hancock County during the 1996 Olympics, and he was also voted as one of the 1983 Outstanding Young Men of America and the 1994 Outstanding African American in Hancock County; and

WHEREAS, his dedication to his community is further demonstrated by his service as Deacon of the Springfield Baptist Church, Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Hancock County Primary Health Care Center, member of the Sparta Alumni Chapter of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Tri-County Health System; and

WHEREAS, he has helped to shape the future of the Georgia Division of Family and Children Services, improving the lives of many, and his commitment, hard work, and goodness will carry on as a foundation of public service for many generations to come, and it is only fitting and proper that the contributions of this outstanding public servant be recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Robert L. Moore on his tremendous service to the Division of Family and Children Services, Hancock County, and this state, congratulate him on this the occasion of his retirement, and wish him continued success for the future.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Robert L. Moore.
