A RESOLUTION


Celebrating the life of John Charles Alden and offering condolences upon his passing; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, John Charles Alden was born on February 7, 1920; and

WHEREAS, he graduated from the University of Georgia in 1941, and served in the Navy in the Pacific theater aboard a destroyer; and

WHEREAS, after serving his country, he joined Woolfolk Chemical Works, retiring as vice president of research and development 40 years later; and

WHEREAS, the Georgia-South Carolina Peach Growers Association presented Mr. Alden with a plaque naming him "Mr. Peach" in 1982 for his outstanding service to the peach industry; and

WHEREAS, he was a past president of the Southeastern Branch of the Entomological Society of America; and

WHEREAS, after his retirement, he worked with his son Tommy in developing County Line Nursery in Byron, Georgia; and

WHEREAS, he was an avid golfer and was a founding member of Pine Needles Country Club and a former club champion; and

WHEREAS, he was a life-long member of Saint Andrews Episcopal Church and served in numerous leadership capacities with the church; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Alden is survived by his wife of 65 years, Emma Ruth; children, John, Jr., Jimmie, Tommy, and Brenda; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body celebrate the life well lived of John Charles Alden and offer condolences to his family and friends upon his passing.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of John Charles Alden.
