A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing

purposes.
WHEREAS,
on Wednesday, May 10, 2006, City Councilman Ron Newcomb served his community in
a way few politicians can claim to have done: by personally saving the life a an
accident victim; and
WHEREAS,
as he was driving home late that night, he spotted a pickup truck whose driver
had been thrown halfway through the driver's side window; and
WHEREAS,
he pulled over to find that the woman was bleeding and unresponsive, and, as he
checked her pulse, he noticed a fire starting underneath the truck;
and
WHEREAS,
with the help of another motorist, Lauren Santiago, Ron was able to extricate
the driver to safety as a third Good Samaritan arrived with a fire extinguisher;
and
WHEREAS,
motorists who stop to help others put themselves at significant risk by entering
an unfamiliar situation where they may have little professional experience;
and
WHEREAS,
the aid that Ron gave to the driver was indispensable, and, in fulfilling his
duty as a good citizen and neighbor, Ron Newcomb has brought honor to his
family, the community of Smyrna, and the State of Georgia.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body hereby
recognizes and commends Smyrna City Councilman Ron Newcomb for his profound act
of heroism in rescuing a helpless motorist.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Ron Newcomb.
