RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and honoring the Honorable Patsy Y. Porter, Judge of the State Court of Fulton
County; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Patsy Y. Porter, Judge of the State Court of Fulton County, serves the State of
Georgia with great honor, wisdom, and compassion; and
WHEREAS,
her strong work ethic and diligence has earned her state-wide recognition as a
state court judge who possesses the qualities of judicial excellence exemplified
by the most famous of judges; and
WHEREAS,
Judge Porter is strongly committed to serving the Atlanta community, and in
keeping with that commitment, she is actively involved in numerous professional
and civic associations, including a member and past president of the Georgia
Association of Black Women Attorneys (GABWA), member of the Gate City Bar
Association, co-chair of the Board of Directors of the Andrew and Walter Young
YMCA, member of the Board of Trustees of the Georgia Bar Foundation, member of
the Board to Determine Fitness of Bar Applicants, past president and member of
the Advisory Board of the Atlanta Legal Aid Society, and an alumna of Leadership
Atlanta; and
WHEREAS,
Judge Porter is greatly admired by her peers and constituents alike as
demonstrated by her receipt of numerous awards and commendations for her work in
the community, including the Leah Ward Sears Award for Distinction in the
Profession, Jurist of the Year Award from Mount Moriah Grand Masonic Lodge,
Judge With A Heart Award from the Minority Judges of Georgia, Leadership Award
from the Atlanta Job Corps Center, Spirit of GABWA Award from the Georgia
Association of Black Women Attorneys, and the Millennium Award of Excellence In
Law from the Women For Morris Brown College; and
WHEREAS,
she was chosen for these prestigious honors for judicial excellence in the areas
of integrity, fairness, open-mindedness, knowledge of the law, professional
ethics, creativity, sound judgment, intellectual courage, and decisiveness;
and
WHEREAS,
recognized as the "consummate jurist," Judge Porter is also known for being a
devoted wife and loving mother to her two sons; and
WHEREAS,
it is only fitting and proper that this body recognize such an outstanding
citizen and judge who has given so much of herself to advance legal standards
and ethics in the law and for the betterment of this state.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body honor the Honorable Patsy Y. Porter, commend her for her many
contributions to her community, and express their gratitude for her excellent
service to the State of Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Judge Patsy
Y. Porter.
