A RESOLUTION

Recognizing and commending Cobb County Deputy Police Chief Bill L. Mull; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Deputy Police Chief Bill L. Mull joined the Cobb Police Department in April, 1966, as a patrol officer upon graduation from Kennesaw State College and University as a way to support his young family; and

WHEREAS, during his career, he has worked in the detective bureau and internal affairs, and he commanded the bomb squad for ten years, which squad helped to investigate the bombing at Atlanta's Centennial Park during the 1996 Olympics; and

WHEREAS, he was appointed as deputy chief of the detective bureau in 2004, but he says the seven years he spent as evening watch commander at the Cumberland precinct with traffic services in the 1980's were his favorite because the officers he worked with made the work enjoyable even though they were extremely busy; and

WHEREAS, he was named Officer of the Year in 2001 by the Peace Officers' Association of Georgia, and the year before, the Cobb Chamber named him Officer of the Year; and

WHEREAS, he was a first sergeant in the Georgia National Guard before retiring in 2003; and

WHEREAS, Deputy Police Chief Mull will retire in April, 2008, trading in his police cruiser for a tractor to use on a few acres he and his wife own in Cartersville, and he plans to play golf and work on restoring his 1970 Covette, but his number one priority will be getting season tickets for the University of Tennessee football games where both of his children are graduates; and

WHEREAS, he is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; his loyalty, competency, reliability, and enthusiasm have distinguished his superlative service to this state; and his friendship is regarded by everyone as a special experience which they will always treasure; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize Deputy Police Chief Bill L. Mull and commend him for his exemplary career and wish him the best for the future.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Deputy Police Chief Bill L. Mull.
