Creating
the House Study Committee on University System of Georgia Admission Practices
and Policies; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
each year, the State of Georgia produces outstanding high school graduates who
are ranked among the highest qualified students in the nation; and
WHEREAS,
many of these students apply for admission to the flagship university and other
universities of the University System of Georgia and have a strong desire to
further their educations in the State of Georgia at a state university;
and
WHEREAS,
each year, many of these highly qualified students are rejected and denied
admission to these universities and, consequently, seek admission to schools
located in other states; and
WHEREAS,
this exodus from our state of many of the best and brightest students results in
a loss to this state of their minds and talents and the consequential loss to
the economy and future of this state; and
WHEREAS,
admission to Georgia's premier institutions should be based on merit, and
efforts should be made to retain these students in the educational systems of
this state; and
WHEREAS,
there is a need to study the admission practices and policies of the University
System of Georgia to ensure that such practices and policies are conducive to
the recruitment and retention of these students.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that there is created
the House Study Committee on University System of Georgia Admission Practices
