RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Georgia Motor Trucking Association on the occasion of its
75th anniversary; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Motor Trucking Association was formed in 1933 at the height of the
Great Depression by a hardy group of men seeking the betterment of their
industry; and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Motor Trucking Association has been in existence for 75 years,
making it one of the oldest trade associations in Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Motor Trucking Association has been a consistent advocate for
improvements to Georgia's highways and in highway safety; and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Motor Trucking Association has approximately 1,000 member firms that
employ over 300,000 people in Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
members of the Georgia Motor Trucking Association reside in every county in
Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Motor Trucking Association has trained more than 200,000 commercial
drivers to aid law enforcement in promoting highway safety and deterring
terrorism; and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Motor Trucking Association members move more than 80 percent of the
truck freight moved in Georgia each year; and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Motor Trucking Association has been a tireless advocate for its
members' interests at the local, state, and federal levels for the past 75
years; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to recognize with
particularity the outstanding accomplishments of this extraordinary
organization.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join together to recognize the Georgia Motor Trucking Association on
the occasion of its 75th anniversary and commend it for the valuable services it
provides to its members and this state.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Georgia
Motor Trucking Association.
