RESOLUTION
Commending
the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital of Augusta, Georgia; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital opened over 25 years ago and
is dedicated to delivering the highest standards of care in the highly complex
care environment of burn treatment and recovery; and
WHEREAS,
the center receives patients from South Carolina, Georgia, southern Tennessee,
western North Carolina, northern Florida, and Mississippi, and the next closest
burn centers are in Atlanta; Birmingham, Alabama; Chapel Hill, North Carolina;
and Gainesville, Florida; and
WHEREAS,
the burn center is recognized as a leader in burn research and treatment, and it
helps heal hundreds of lives each year; and
WHEREAS,
the unit typically receives 15 patients per day with varying degrees of burns;
however, when the Imperial Sugar Company plant in Port Wentworth, Georgia,
exploded, the 59 bed center was swamped with patients in critical condition;
and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Fred Mullins, director of the burn center, rushed to Savannah to stabilize
and evaluate the burn patients before they were taken by helicopter to Doctors
Hospital; and
WHEREAS,
by the outstanding dedication of Dr. Mullins and the staff of the Joseph M.
Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital, innumerable lives have been impacted
through their superior commitment, training, and extraordinary care; it is only
fitting that this body recognize these amazing individuals.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital for its
unparalleled record of health service and its outstanding work on behalf of
persons and families in need.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Dr. Fred
Mullins, director of the Joseph M. Still Burn Center at Doctors Hospital of
Augusta, Georgia.
