House Resolution 169
By: Representatives Davis of the 109th, Everson of the 106th, England of the 108th, Lindsey of the 54th, Hembree of the 67th, and others

A RESOLUTION

Commending the energy relief efforts of President George W. Bush, the United States Congress, and the Georgia General Assembly; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Congress has made laudable efforts towards energy relief and energy solutions for alleviating the burden on citizens, and, in his 2007 State of the Union Address, President George W. Bush indicated energy as a top national priority; and

WHEREAS, it has become imperative for Georgia and the United States to make strides towards energy diversity by exploring options in renewable fuels, new technologies, domestic resources, and a diverse energy infrastructure in addition to foreign oil imports; and

WHEREAS, affordable and reliable energy sources are the lifeblood of a robust economy and constitute the highest goal of any energy policy; and

WHEREAS, President Bush's commitment to technological solutions to the energy crisis merits the applause of this body, as advancing research and improved technology are the keys to becoming more energy efficient and dampening negative environmental impacts; and

WHEREAS, the President can continue to show leadership by supporting efficiency incentives for businesses through technology and trade partnerships such as the Asia-Pacific Partnership on Clean Development and Climate (AP6), a partnership designed to improve energy efficiency and lessen environmental impact in the world's fastest growing economies; and

WHEREAS, the most effective means of reducing greenhouse gasses without increasing energy prices is to promote technology and trade partnerships like the AP6, which will address the emission issues of China and India without artificially increasing U.S. energy prices and putting our small businesses and economy at a disadvantage; and

WHEREAS, these technological and commercial solutions are a preferable alternative to tax increases that would further burden Georgia's economy.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that President George W. Bush and the United States Congress are hereby commended for recent initiatives towards energy relief and that the Georgia General Assembly is hereby encouraged to consider further exploration of energy diversification and to make energy solutions a top priority in this state.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to President George W. Bush, the President of the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, and each member of the Georgia congressional delegation.
