House Resolution 1699

A RESOLUTION


Congratulating the Glenn Hills boys basketball team on winning the Class AAA state championship and inviting them to appear before the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the Glenn Hills Spartans varsity boys basketball team defeated Carver-Columbus by a score of 64-57 to win the first boys state title in the 40 year history of the school; and

WHEREAS, in the championship game, Glenn Hills started slow, but with a 19-9 second quarter run, they roared to a 33-24 halftime lead and never looked back; and

WHEREAS, senior Reggie Middleton led the way with 18 points, 11 of those at the foul line, on a night in which the Spartans made good on 25 free throws, and Spartans sixth man Shawn Allen added 16 points and 8 rebounds; and

WHEREAS, led by ten seniors, and their outstanding coach, Richard Wallace, the Spartans reeled off their 24th consecutive victory, and for the season, the team had an amazing record of 29 wins and only two losses; and

WHEREAS, prior to this championship season, the Spartans had only won five state basketball playoff games in the history of their boys program; they matched that total with five playoff wins in 2008; and

WHEREAS, the team´s hard work, determination, and skill were rewarded by the ultimate accomplishment in team sports: a championship; and

WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this body recognize with particularity the outstanding accomplishments of this extraordinary team.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body congratulate the Glenn Hills boys basketball team on winning the Class AAA state championship and invite them to appear before this body at a date and time designated by the Speaker of the House of Representatives for the purposes of being recognized by the House of Representatives and receiving an appropriate copy of this resolution.
