RESOLUTION
Commending
Jimmy Warren Benefield; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Jimmy Warren Benefield has long been recognized by the citizens of this state
for the vital role that he has played in community leadership and his deep
personal commitment to public service and the State of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
he was born in Atlanta, Georgia, the second son of four boys, to Guy and Melba
Benefield and received his early education in Forest Park, Georgia, and a law
degree from Atlanta Law School in 1994, after which he went to work for Amoco
Oil Company as a property tax manager for the southeastern United States from
1968 until 1994; and
WHEREAS,
he met his wife of 45 years, Judy, at LaGrange College and they have two
children, Jason and Molly, and he and his wife moved to Cartersville, Georgia,
in 2001 to be near his six grandchildren, the love of his life.
WHEREAS,
he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time,
talents, and energy toward the betterment of his state as evidenced dramatically
by his 24 years of exemplary service as a member of the Georgia General Assembly
and more recently his eight years of service as the public relations and
legislative liaison for the Georgia Department of Transportation;
and
WHEREAS,
during his tenure as a Representative for the Georgia House, he was Chairman of
the Interstate Cooperation Committee, Assistant Administration Floor Leader for
Governor Joe Frank Harris, and Transportation Chairman and served on the Rules
and Appropriations Committees; and
WHEREAS,
his significant organizational and leadership talents, his remarkable patience
and diplomacy, his keen sense of vision, and his sensitivity to the needs of the
members of the General Assembly, the Department of Transportation, and the many
public officials he has served have earned him the respect and admiration of his
colleagues and associates and the members of this body in particular;
and
WHEREAS,
he is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; his loyalty, competency,
reliability, and enthusiasm have distinguished his superlative service to this
state; and his ready wit and his friendship are counted by everyone as a special
experience they will always treasure; and
WHEREAS,
it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this
distinguished Georgian be appropriately recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Jimmy Warren Benefield for his many decades of efficient,
effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the citizens of this state
and extend to him their most sincere best wishes for continued health and
happiness.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Jimmy Warren
Benefield.
