RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and honoring the life of United States Army Corporal Evan Andrew Marshall of
Athens, Georgia, for his sacrifice and service in protecting our freedoms; and
for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Corporal Marshall was tragically killed in action on Monday, January 28, 2008,
while on patrol in Mosul, Iraq, along with four other American soldiers in a
battle that began after a road-side bomb exploded near their vehicle;
and
WHEREAS,
Corporal Marshall was born on June 2, 1986, and attended Athens Academy and
Cedar Shoals High School, graduating in 2004; and
WHEREAS,
after graduation he joined the United States Army, trained at Fort Benning,
Georgia, and was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment, 3rd
Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado,
in which unit he served until the time of his death; and
WHEREAS,
Corporal Marshall served in Iraq from December, 2005, until December, 2006, and
returned to Iraq for a second tour of duty in December, 2007; and
WHEREAS,
during Corporal Marshall's service in the Army, he was awarded the Bronze Star,
the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, three Army Achievement Medals,
the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Global War on
Terrorism Medal, the Combat Infantry Badge, and the Expert Weapons Qualification
Badge; and
WHEREAS,
this dynamic, productive, and high achieving Georgian will be sorely missed by
all who were privileged to know him.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body hereby honor the memory of Corporal Evan Andrew Marshall as he made
the ultimate sacrifice for the security and freedom of our great state and
country and extend to his family and friends their most sincere
condolences.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
Corporal Evan Andrew Marshall.
