RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Harold Linnenkohl; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Harold Linnenkohl has long been recognized by the citizens of this state for the
vital role that he has played in leadership and his deep personal commitment to
the citizens of his community and the State of Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
he has diligently and conscientiously devoted innumerable hours of his time,
talents, and energy toward the betterment of his state as evidenced dramatically
by his over 34 years of dedicated service to the Georgia Department of
Transportation; and
WHEREAS,
during his career with the Department of Transportation he held positions such
as a Civil Engineering Technologist, Assistant State Bituminous Construction
Engineer, State Aid Engineer, State Aid Administrator, Executive Assistant to
one of the department's former commissioners, and as Deputy Commissioner from
2000 until 2003, at which time the State Transportation Board appointed him
Commissioner, and served in this position until his retirement in November,
2007; and
WHEREAS,
as Commissioner for the Department of Transportation his responsibilities
included implementing the policies of the State Transportation Board and
overseeing the daily operation of the department which included 5,800 employees
and a $2 billion budget; and
WHEREAS,
under his guidance as Commissioner, the department was recognized as one of the
best departments of transportation in the nation, Georgia's roadways were
consistently ranked among the nation's best, he improved operations within the
department, strengthened its internal policies and processes, and boosted
employee morale; and
WHEREAS,
he is a graduate of Southern Technical Institute in Marietta, Georgia, earning a
degree in Civil Engineering Technology in 1968;
and
WHEREAS, he has served his county honorably in the United States Army which included a two-year tour in Vietnam; and
WHEREAS, he has served his county honorably in the United States Army which included a two-year tour in Vietnam; and
WHEREAS,
he and his wife Linda live in Hiram, Georgia, and have two children and three
grandchildren; and
WHEREAS,
he is a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation for
integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; his loyalty, competency,
reliability, and enthusiasm have distinguished his superlative service to this
state.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend Harold Linnenkohl for his many decades of efficient,
effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the citizens of his state
and extend to him their most sincere best wishes for continued health and
happiness.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Harold
Linnenkohl.
