A RESOLUTION


Remembering and honoring the life of David Scott; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, David Scott was a faithful community servant, neighborhood leader, and activist of Clayton County, Georgia, who passed on from this life on January 10, 2007, at the age of 83; and

WHEREAS, David Scott was born on February 1, 1923, in Burke County, North Carolina, and was the oldest son of Sarah Scott Davis; and

WHEREAS, during his life he served diligently as a union shop steward, a legislative aide to the Pennsylvania State Senate, a board member of the Pennsylvania Turnpike Authority, vice president of the Clayton County NAACP, and was nominated by State Representative Gail Buckner to serve on the State of Georgia Indigent Defense Selection Panel; and

WHEREAS, David was a man of exceptional integrity and candor who was noted for keeping his word; and

WHEREAS, he was a devoted husband to his wife, Vernice, working side by side with her on a number of community projects such as voter registration, citizen responsibility, legal redress, and programs to help youth; and

WHEREAS, David and Vernice were honored at the Clayton County Branch of the NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet in October, 2006, for their dedicated community service; and

WHEREAS, David was a firm believer in justice and poured his heart and soul into building organizations that improved the lives of others; and

WHEREAS, in life he commanded the esteem of his fellow Georgians, at his death we mingle our sympathies with the grief of his family and friends.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join together to express their deepest regret at the passing of David Scott and extend their most sincere condolences to his family.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of David Scott.
