RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Alzheimer's Association, Georgia Chapter, and inviting it to
appear before the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
July, 2007, marked the five-year anniversary of the Alzheimer's Association,
Georgia Chapter, which was formed when the Greater Georgia, Central Georgia, and
Augusta Chapters of the Alzheimer's Association merged into a single entity
dedicated to serving the entire state; and
WHEREAS,
prior to the merger, the Atlanta Area Chapter served the Atlanta metropolitan
area beginning in 1982; and
WHEREAS,
the goals of both the Georgia Chapter and the national office are to advance
research, enhance care and support, raise public awareness, and build capacity;
and
WHEREAS,
it is estimated that over 161,000 Georgians have Alzheimer's disease, and more
than 350,000 others are affected through their roles as caregivers;
and
WHEREAS,
in fiscal year 2006, the Georgia Chapter served over 104,000 individuals through
its programs and services; and
WHEREAS,
the Georgia Chapter's vision is a world without Alzheimer's disease, and it
plans to eliminate the disease through the advancement of research and the
promotion of brain health and to enhance care and support for all individuals,
their families, and caregivers.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join together to recognize the Alzheimer's Association, Georgia
Chapter, commend it for the outstanding job it is doing to fight this terrible
illness, and invite it to appear before this body for the purposes of being
recognized by the House of Representatives and receiving appropriate copies of
this resolution.
