RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Carl V. Patton for his support of the Georgia International Law
Enforcement Exchange and inviting him to appear before the House of
Representatives; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Carl V. Patton has outstandingly served as president of Georgia State University
since July 1, 1992, diligently overseeing one of the nation´s largest urban
research universities with more than 40,000 students; and
WHEREAS,
his expertise as an academic leader and urban planner has helped Georgia State
University become a vital part of the downtown Atlanta community and led the way
for much of the downtown revitalization efforts that continues to grow;
and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Patton´s spirit of innovation and focus on recruitment of Georgia
State´s world-class faculty, strengthening academic programs, and improving
campus infrastructure continues to increase recognition for Georgia State
through national rankings, peer journals, and media reports; and
WHEREAS,
Carl V. Patton is also most noted for his tremendous and long-standing support
for the Georgia International Law Enforcement Exchange (GILEE) program;
and
WHEREAS,
with the support of talented people like Dr. Patton, GILEE has been able to grow
and develop first rate programs for the national and international exchange of
outstanding law enforcement personnel, allowing such expert police officers and
public safety leaders to learn from each other through hands on meetings and
operations around the country and around the world; and
WHEREAS,
the valuable support of Dr. Patton and others has helped GILEE achieve a
national and international reputation as a leader in the exchange of law
enforcement ideas and initiatives; and
WHEREAS, such an exchange of information has led to the tremendous development of ideas around the globe, thereby increasing national security and world peace and making our world a better and safer place; and

WHEREAS,
it is only fitting and proper that this man who has personally contributed so
much to education, public safety, and national security be appropriately
recognized.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body honor and commend Carl V. Patton for his outstanding service to the
State of Georgia, to the United States, and to world peace.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Carl V. Patton is invited to appear before the House of
Representatives at a date and time to be determined by the Speaker of the
House.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Carl V.
Patton.
