A
RESOLUTION
Remembering
and honoring the life of John C. Stephenson; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
John C. Stephenson, of Meigs, was born on June 17, 1931, to the late I. J. and
Mittie Kate Sizemore Stephenson; and
WHEREAS,
he married Faye West and was an Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict;
and
WHEREAS,
he was an insurance salesman and manager for American General Life Insurance
Company; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Stephenson was active in his local community, including as a member of the
Smith-Spence American Legion Post No.144; as a member of the Thomas County Board
of Education, where he was the second longest living serving school board member
in the state (37 years), having served as past chairperson several times and
where he was serving as vice chairperson; and as a deacon and a Sunday School
teacher at Meigs Baptist Church; and
WHEREAS,
his community and this state lost a great citizen on February 16, 2008, and, as
he was much loved by his family, friends, and community, this loss will leave a
void in the hearts of many.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body join together to express their deepest regret at the passing of John
C. Stephenson and extend their most sincere condolences to his family and
friends.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of
John C. Stephenson.
