RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. William Pope "Billy" Langdale; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. William Pope "Billy" Langdale has served this state with distinction for 25
years as a member of the State Transportation Board; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Langdale was elected to the board in 1988, and served as its chairman from
April, 1995 until April, 1996; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Langdale was born on February 10, 1921, in Valdosta, Georgia;
and
WHEREAS,
he graduated from Valdosta High School and went on to attend the University of
Georgia, 1938-40; Mercer University, 1940; Valdosta State College, 1940; the
University of Georgia, 1941; and the Naval War College, 1951; and
WHEREAS,
he served his country honorably in the United States Marines from 1942 until
1950, receiving the Bronze Star in the Battle of Piva Forks, Bougainville, and
retired as a Lieutenant Colonel; and
WHEREAS,
he is senior vice president of The Langdale Company, and has other affiliations
with Langdale Ford Company, Langdale Timber Company, and Langdale Forest
Products Company; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Langdale is a member of the Valdosta Country Club, the Elks Club, the
American Legion, Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the
Masonic Order, Knights Templar, Shriners, and the First Baptist Church in
Valdosta, Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Langdale is widowed and has three wonderful children, William Pope Langdale,
Jr., Robert Harley Langdale, and Mary Jacquelyn Langdale
Dickey.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize Mr. William Pope "Billy" Langdale and commend him for his long and valuable service to the State Transportation Board, his community, and the state.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized

Pope "Billy" Langdale.
