RESOLUTION
Commending
the 116th Air Control Wing of the Georgia Air National Guard; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the members of the 116th Air Control Wing of the Georgia National Guard
distinguished itself by exceptionally meritorious service from June 1, 2006 to
May 31, 2007; and
WHEREAS,
during this period of time, the 116th Air Control Wing accomplished its mission
by maximizing every opportunity and sustaining an unwavering focus on the war
effort and unit combat effectiveness; and
WHEREAS,
the men and women of the 116th Air Control Wing understood their distinctive
mission, utilizing professionalism, knowledge, and technical expertise to
directly contribute to the fulfillment of national objectives; and
WHEREAS,
as a Total Force wing, this extraordinary mix of active duty and guard personnel
continue to accrue unprecedented accolades while securing Department of Defense
strategic and tactical objectives; and
WHEREAS,
in one year, the 116th Air Control Wing generated 9,575 combat hours which
provided command and control, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance to
ground forces over Iraq and Afghanistan; and
WHEREAS,
Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System aircraft and crews assisted in
multiple raids in Baghdad, supporting the 101st Cavalry´s largest air
assault since Vietnam, allowing them to destroy enemy mortar encampments;
and
WHEREAS,
during Operation Varsity March, surveillance resulted in the capture of the
number one and number four high value individuals on the "Anti-Iraq Forces Most
Wanted List"; and
WHEREAS,
our nation´s security continues to rely on patriotic men and women who put
their personal lives on hold in order to place themselves in harm´s way to
protect the freedoms that all United States citizens cherish; and
WHEREAS,
the distinctive accomplishments of the members of the 116th Air Control Wing
reflect credit upon themselves, the Air National Guard, and the United States
Air Force, and it is only fitting this body recognize the 116th Air Control
Wing.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend the 116th Air Control Wing of the Georgia Air National Guard
for its efficient, effective, unselfish, and dedicated public service to the
citizens of this country and state; and extend their most profound and sincere
appreciation to them and all members of the United States military who stand
ever ready to lay the ultimate sacrifice upon the altar of freedom.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the 116th Air
Control Wing of the Georgia Air National Guard.
