A RESOLUTION


Commending the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office and DeKalb County Police Department and observing April 20, 2008, as a day of recognition; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, there are approximately 2,000 law enforcement officers employed by DeKalb County who are dedicated to protecting the lives and well being of its citizens and preserving the peace in DeKalb County's communities; and

WHEREAS, Sheriff Tom Brown is commended for his outstanding performance in managing the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department, which includes the DeKalb County jail, safety and security of all court proceedings, and protecting the citizens of DeKalb County with its fugitive squad and SWAT teams; and

WHEREAS, under the leadership of Chief Terrell Bolton, the DeKalb Police Department has established a model for protecting its citizens with the "Road to Success Action Plan" which will enhance services to the community into the next decade; and

WHEREAS, the DeKalb Police Department's philosophy of "interactive community policing" is a proactive approach to solving crime problems throughout the county; and

WHEREAS, DeKalb County and the entire state mourned the loss of DeKalb Police Officers Ricky Bryant, Jr., and Eric Barker, who lost their lives while working an off-duty security job in DeKalb; and

WHEREAS, DeKalb County's law enforcement personnel are commended for their quick response in the apprehension of the suspect involved in these tragic shootings; and

WHEREAS, the members of Christian Jubilee Full Word Baptist Church, under the leadership of Reverend Portia Minter, are to be commended for their efforts to honor DeKalb County's brave law enforcement officers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that this body commends the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office and the DeKalb County Police Department for their work in serving the citizens of DeKalb County and this state and declares April 20, 2008, as a day of recognition for their outstanding service.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to the DeKalb County Sheriff's Office and the DeKalb County Police Department.
