A RESOLUTION


Commending Evelyn W. Turner Pugh; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Evelyn W. Turner Pugh is a celebrated financial manager, Columbus City Council member, and Columbus College graduate who has provided years of exceptional leadership and guidance to Columbus and the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, she has brilliantly served the community of Columbus, Georgia, as City Councilor since 1988 and has taken on a wealth of important responsibilities, including overseeing the approval of the Mayor's $180 million budget, a Funding Committee appointment by Governor Miller to evaluate the allocation of $900 million in 1998, and an appointment as Chair of the National League of Cities' Public Safety & Crime Prevention Steering Committee in 1996; and

WHEREAS, she has served as Vice President of SunTrust Bank of West Georgia since 1999, where she is responsible for establishing and developing market strategies, performs analysis and research, acts as a liaison between the market and the company, and represents SunTrust through ongoing involvement in local organizations, civic groups, churches, and PTA's; and

WHEREAS, prior to her career with SunTrust, she spent 30 years with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia, initially as the COB Unit Leader and then as Internal Auditor, Lead Financial Analyst, and Manager of the Columbus Financial Operations; and

WHEREAS, her indomitable commitment to civic duty, her inspirational leadership, and her expert financial management have rendered incalculable benefits for the City of Columbus and have brought honor to the State of Georgia.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body commend Evelyn W. Turner Pugh for an outstanding career in public service and extend to her the sincerest best wishes for her future.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Evelyn W. Turner Pugh.
