A RESOLUTION


Commending and recognizing Sergeant Michael P. McKeithan, Corporal William H. Hoch, and Officers James Huth, Cole Crosby, and Ross Hancock, and inviting them to appear before the House of Representatives; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Sergeant Michael McKeithan, Corporal William H. Hoch, and Officers James Huth, Cole Crosby, and Ross Hancock are police officers with the Gwinnett County North Precinct; and

WHEREAS, on January 3, 2008, Sergeant McKeithan, Corporal Hoch, and Officers Huth, Crosby, and Hancock reported to serve several warrants on an individual, including a warrant for aggravated assault resulting from an incident the previous weekend when the suspect almost struck several police officers while fleeing the scene; and

WHEREAS, when Sergeant McKeithan and Corporal Hoch entered the residence to serve the warrants they were met with gunfire; and

WHEREAS, Corporal Hoch was shot in the leg and Sergeant McKeithan was shot once in the arm and three times through his vest; and

WHEREAS, Officer Huth, hearing the shots, rushed into the house and returned fire at the suspect while rescuing Sergeant McKeithan, and Corporal Hoch was able to get out of the house by himself; and

WHEREAS, a 13 hour standoff ensued during which the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound; and

WHEREAS, due to the severity of his injuries, Sergeant McKeithan remains in the intensive care unit at Gwinnett Medical Center; and

WHEREAS, Corporal Hoch remains at home recuperating from the gunshot wound to his leg; and

WHEREAS, Sergeant McKeithan has been employed with the Gwinnett County Police Department since March, 1987; and Corporal Hoch as been with them since May, 2001.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body recognize and commend Sergeant Michael P. McKeithan, Corporal William H. Hoch, and Officers James Huth, Cole Crosby, and Ross Hancock for their outstanding service and bravery in the face of danger and invite them to appear before this body on a date and time designated by the Speaker of the House for the purposes of being recognized by the House and receiving an appropriate copy of this resolution.
