RESOLUTION
Recognizing
the Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda and declaring the week of
February 10-16, 2008, as "FBLA-PBL Week" in the State of Georgia; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Future Business Leaders of America concept was begun in 1937 by
Dr. Hamden L. Forkner, then chairman of the Commercial Education Department
of the Teachers College of Columbia University and was accepted for official
sponsorship in 1940 by the National Council for Business Education;
and
WHEREAS,
16 years after the first high school chapter was chartered in Johnson City,
Tennessee, Phi Beta Lambda became an independent division of the Future Business
Leaders of America; and
WHEREAS,
the Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda, Inc., is a nonprofit
career and technical student organization that prepares students for careers in
business and business education with 250,000 members and advisers in 12,000
chartered chapters including representatives from the United States, the Virgin
Islands, Puerto Rico, and Europe; and
WHEREAS,
the Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda´s mission is to
bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through
innovative leadership and career development programs; and
WHEREAS,
some of the most notable alumni include singer Johnny Mathis, NFL quarterback
Troy Aikman, former Governor of Mississippi Ronnie Musgrove, and former First
Lady Patricia Nixon who was an FBLA adviser during her years as a high school
teacher; and
WHEREAS,
the Atlanta Technical College chapter of Phi Beta Lambda serves the students of
metropolitan Atlanta to prepare them for careers in business and business
education.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body recognize the Future Business Leaders of America-Phi Beta Lambda,
Inc., and declare the week of February 10-16, 2008, as "FBLA-PBL Week" in the
State of Georgia.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to Atlanta
Technical College and Stephanie Sherrer, President, Phi Beta Lambda Chapter
9720.
