RESOLUTION
Declaring
February 20, 2008, as Pharmacy Day at the State Capitol and commending the
Georgia Pharmacy Association and its members for 133 years of service to the
patients of Georgia.
WHEREAS,
on Wednesday, February 20, 2008, the Georgia Pharmacy Association will be
hosting its annual Membership Involvement Program (MIP) Pharmacy Legislative Day
at the Capitol; and
WHEREAS,
many representatives of the profession of pharmacy will be at the State Capitol
on that date to meet with legislators; and
WHEREAS,
there are currently more than 11,658 licensed pharmacists in the State of
Georgia; and
WHEREAS,
pharmacy is practiced in a wide range of settings: community pharmacies,
hospitals, nursing homes, academia, the pharmaceutical industry, managed care,
and government; and
WHEREAS,
pharmacists are the most knowledgeable health care professionals about
medications and their uses, and
WHEREAS,
choosing a pharmacist is as important as choosing a physician because
medications today have great power to heal and improve quality of life and they
can also do serious harm if taken incorrectly. Medication counseling is one of
the most important roles of a pharmacist; and
WHEREAS,
the pharmacists of Georgia have consistently provided outstanding care to their
patients and diligently strive to reduce the incidence of medication
noncompliance or misuse; and
WHEREAS, the Georgia Pharmacy Association was founded 133 years ago and is the professional association representing pharmacists of all practice settings;

NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend the Georgia Pharmacy Association and its members for 133 years
of service to the patients of Georgia, and recognize Wednesday, February 20,
2008, as Pharmacy Day at the State Capitol.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Georgia
Pharmacy Association for distribution among its members.
