A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and honoring Kenneth Babcock; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, Mr. Kenneth Babcock, a celebrated pilot and distinguished citizen of Fayetteville, Georgia, has authored his first book, A Pilot's Life - Hump Pilot & Crop Duster, and conducted his first book signing at Fayette County Library on April 8, 2006; and

WHEREAS, he was born on November 1, 1918, and grew up in the West Texas ranch town of Sonora; and

WHEREAS, after studying geology at the University of Texas, he moved to McCamey, Texas, with the possibility of entering the oil industry, but his destiny changed when the opportunity to become a pilot presented itself; and

WHEREAS, he owned and operated a crop dusting service for 30 years and has flown as a professional pilot for 50 years, logging a total of 26,000 flying hours and circling the Earth twice; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Babcock's book includes his account of flying over the Himalayas during World War II, carrying supplies and war materials as part of a semi-secret operation to China; and

WHEREAS, he enjoys travel and spending time with family and with his wife, Blanche, to whom he was married on January 15, 2000; and

WHEREAS, each Wednesday, Kenneth volunteers by playing piano as Blanche sings for the Christian City Alzheimer unit; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Kenneth Babcock has lived a full and adventurous life, has brought honor to his country, and is an inspiration to his fellow citizens.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of this body join together to commend Kenneth Babcock for his outstanding career as a pilot and flight instructor and extend to him their deepest and most sincere best wishes for his continuing health and well-being.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Kenneth Babcock.
