A
RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending the Valdosta State University football team for winning the 2007
NCAA Division II National Championship; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Valdosta State University football team claimed the 2007 NCAA Division II
National Championship, their second title in the last four years and third title
game appearance in six years; and
WHEREAS,
this awesome team has a 13-1 record, overcoming second half deficits in six of
the 13 wins including, incredibly, all four NCAA playoff games; and
WHEREAS,
they scored the winning touchdown with just 22 seconds remaining in the national
championship game; and
WHEREAS,
they finished second in the Georgia State Conference; and
WHEREAS,
Cedric Jones and Sherard Reynolds were named first-team All-America;
and
WHEREAS,
Cedric Jones, Sherard Reynolds, Gerald Davis, William Montford, Maurice Leggett,
Michael Terry, and Travis Harrison were named All-Gulf South Conference;
and
WHEREAS,
this team was ranked fifth among the top five teams in the nation in turnover
margin, fourth in punt return defense, second in turnovers gained, and first in
passes intercepted.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body commend the Valdosta State University football team for its
unparalleled achievements and extend their sincerest best wishes for continued
success in the future.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized
and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Head Coach
David Dean.
