RESOLUTION
Remembering
Judge Andrew J. Whalen, Jr.; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Judge Andrew J. Whalen, Jr., served the Griffin Judicial Circuit from 1969 until
his retirement in 1999; and
WHEREAS,
Judge Whalen was known for his strict but fair approach to jurisprudence;
and
WHEREAS,
Judge Whalen graduated from Griffin High School in 1940 and attended North
Georgia College until 1942, at which point he joined the army until 1946;
and
WHEREAS,
after returning to civilian life, Judge Whalen entered the University of
Georgia, graduating with a degree in business administration, after which he
continued on to law school at Emory University from which he received his law
degree in 1950; and
WHEREAS,
Judge Whalen was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of
Griffin as well as an active Mason and Elk and member of the American Legion;
and
WHEREAS,
Judge Whalen dedicated his life to his community and his wife, Jacqueline, sons,
Drew and Timothy, and daughter, Susie.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that the members of
this body remember the contributions of Judge Andrew J. Whalen, Jr., and offer
their condolences to his family for their loss.

IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House is authorized and directed to
transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Judge Andrew J.
Whalen, Jr.
