A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT


To amend Chapter 4 of Title 1 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to holidays and observances, so as to declare the fourth Monday in October "School Bus Drivers Appreciation Day"; to make certain findings of fact; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:

SECTION 1.
WHEREAS, every day, a fleet of yellow school buses transport Georgia´s children to and from school carrying the state´s future–our children; and

WHEREAS, the state´s school bus drivers are entrusted with the lives of our children, and they have proven worthy of our trust day after day, year in and year out, in spite of low wages and lower retirement benefits; and

WHEREAS, Georgia´s school bus drivers deserve recognition and appreciation for their sense of duty and their sense of obligation in keeping our children safe; and

WHEREAS, it is only right and proper that the citizens of this state take a few moments each year to thank our school bus drivers.

SECTION 2.
Chapter 4 of Title 1 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to holidays and observances, is amended by adding a new Code section to read as follows:
"1-4-17.
The fourth Monday in October of every year is designated 'School Bus Drivers Appreciation Day' in Georgia."

SECTION 3.
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.
