The Senate has come a long way since the creation of our State Legislature in 1777. The General Assembly was originally designed as a uni-cameral body, but has since been reorganized to divide responsibilities between the House and Senate. The 56 members of the Senate serve with a deep passion for bettering the future of Georgia while keeping a respectful eye on history.

Historically, Georgia’s economy was built on agriculture. Today, agribusiness remains our largest industry, but is joined by aerospace manufacturing, tourism, military bases, and high technology firms.  Georgia-based companies like Coca-Cola, CNN, Delta, and Home Depot are recognized around the world. People come to Georgia to make their dreams come true.

I represent the 1^st Senate District, which includes portions of Chatham and Liberty Counties and all of Bryan County. I have been serving the coastal area since 1993 and I was elected President Pro Tempore of the Senate on the first day of the 2003 session. I am honored to serve the state of Georgia and I invite you to visit the state Capitol to experience Georgia’s government first-hand.
