What is RSS?

There is some discussion as to what RSS stands for, but most people for “Really Simple Syndication.” RSS feeds are just a special kind of web page, designed to be read by computers rather than people. It might help to think of them as the free, internet version of the old-fashioned ticket-tape news wire machines.

What are RSS feeds?

An RSS Feed is a document containing a listing of a web site's new content. This document is updated when new content is published to the site. Feeds are gathered and read by RSS feed readers (also called aggregators).

What is an RSS reader?

RSS and Atom files provide news updates from a web site in a simple form for your computer. You read these files in a program called an aggregator, which collects news from various web sites and provides it to you in a simple form

How do I subscribe to these feeds?

In order to subscribe to an RSS feed or newsfeed you will need two things, an RSS reader (also known as a news aggregator) and url (web address) of the RSS feed that you wish to subscribe.
1.) Download a News Aggregator / RSS Reader
2.) Locate the web address (url) of the RSS feed (XML file) that you wish to subscribe.

3.) Install the feed reader or news aggregator on the computer
4.) Insert the url of the news feed (there is usually an "add feed" button).
5.) Many of the news readers will allow you to set the interval that the software will look for a feed update others simply update daily.
6.) The information in the feed will be updated when the feed contains new content.

Where can I get an RSS reader?

There is a range of different news readers available and new versions are appearing all the time. Different news readers work on different operating systems, so you will need to choose one that will work with your computer.
