State Representative Steve Tumlin (R-Marietta) represents the 38th District in the Georgia House of Representatives. Being first elected in 2004, Representative Tumlin was born in Marietta, and has been married to Jean Alice, a former Cobb County high school teacher, for 29 years. They have three adult children: Ty, Jamie, and Sig. Jamie and her husband, Ryan Patrick, are the parents of the Tumlin’s first grandbaby, Alison Brooks Patrick.
Representative Tumlin is a tax attorney on the square in Marietta. Thunder is also a businessman having been the President and Owner of Marietta lumber Company and currently practicing as a CPA. Steve was a founding director of Georgia Security Bank and has served on the Advisory Board of other Cobb banks. Steve graduated from Marietta High School, and then went on to receive a B.B.A. from the University of Georgia. He successfully completed his MBA at the University of Denver where he taught Accounting, and obtained his law degree from Georgia State University.
Representative Tumlin has been active as a civic and community leader. He was the first president of Kennestone Hospice, and the founding director and treasurer of Cobb-Marietta Girls Club. Steve served as treasurer for his church for many years and is currently chairman of the board of the First United Methodist Church of Marietta. He is the past president of the Marietta Kiwanis Club and past distinguished Lieutenant Governor of the 15th Division of Kiwanis. Representative Tumlin has served as an officer of the Marietta Touchdown Club; been president of the Cobb YMCA; past president of the Cobb/Marietta Youth Museum; and been in Leadership Georgia and Leadership Cobb. Currently he serves as a trustee for Reinhardt College, a director for the Marietta Museum of History and Friends of the Strand, Inc.
Besides serving in the General Assembly, Representative Tumlin has also served in other governmental service capacities. He has served as the treasurer of the Marietta Redevelopment Corporation, past vice chairman of the Marietta Board of Lights and Water, and as a past chairman of the Marietta Board of Education.
Representative Tumlin serves in the house as the vice-chairman of the Regulated Industries Committee, and a member on the Banks and Banking and Civil Judiciary Committees. In his freshman year, Thunder was elected by his peers as chairman of the Cobb Delegation.
