SPEAKER APPOINTS REPRESENTATIVE LANETTE STANLEY TURNER ATLANTA—Speaker of the House Glenn Richardson (R-Hiram) has tapped State Representative LaNett Stanley Turner to serve on the House Study Committee on Public Libraries. “I am pleased that Representative Stanley-Turner has accepted this responsibility,” Richardson said. “I am confident that she will do a great job for our state.” The committee will be making recommendations to the 2007 General Assembly for greater accountability in the use of local, state, and federal funding for public libraries. A careful study will be undertaken to determine if changes need to be made to the current legal model for governance of public libraries in Georgia which was established in the 1940’s. The committee was created by the passage of House Resolution 1287, authored by Rep. Chuck Sims. The study committee will end its meetings on December 31, 2006. ###
