Austin Scott, age 37, is the Chairman of the Governmental Affairs Committee of the Georgia House of Representatives. He represents House District 153, serving Tift and Turner counties. Mr. Scott was born in Augusta and is a graduate of the University of Georgia. Elected to the State House at the age of 26, he has over ten years of experience as a legislator. Austin is one of a select few legislators that live south of Fulton County with his seniority. He is the owner and President of a small business, The Southern Group, LLC, and a partner in Pebble Hill Farms, LLC. In addition to chairing the Governmental Affairs Committee, Representative Scott serves on the Legislative and Congresssional Reapportionment Committee, the House Rules Committee, and the Ways and Means Committee, where he serves as Chairman of the Public Policy Subcommittee.

In 2005, Representative Scott sponsored the legislation that created the Certificate of Need Commission. The thirteen members of this commission, including Representative Scott, are charged with reviewing the state’s health care system and amaking recommendations to the 2007 General Assembly for changes to the state laws to improve access to quality affordable health care for all Georgia’s citizens. In 2006, Representative Scott was selected to serve on the State Trauma Commission, which he helped create to improve access to trauma care thoughout the state. Additionally, Representative Scott was selected by Governor Perdue to serve on Georgia’s Rural Development Council. Austin Scott is the senior member of our legislative delegation and has been successful in securing state funds for major projects at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, Moultrie Technical College, the Rural Development Center, the Georgia Agrirama, and the opening of Turner County Pre-Release Center.

State Representative Austin Scott is respected for being fair and solution- oriented. He has been recognized by Georgia Trend as one of Georgia’s Brightest Stars under the age of 40. He was awarded the Outstanding Legislative Leadership Certificate by the American Cancer Society for both 2003 and 2004. He is also a member of the National Association of Insurance Financial Advisors and he has served as a board member of Coastal Plains Chapter of the American Red Cross. He and his wife, Vivien, are members of the President’s Club at ABAC. Most recently, he was selected to participate in Leadership Georgia Class of 2007.

The father of a seven year old son, Wells, Austin and his wife Vivien, reside in Ashburn, GA and are members of First Baptist Church of Tifton. Austin is the son of Dr. Jim Scott and Ms. Becky Wells Scott, a teacher in our public school system.
