HD 156 (D-Swainsboro)
Butch Parrish currently serves as State Representative for District 156, representing Emanuel, Jenkins and Johnson Counties and portions of Bulloch and Candler Counties. Representative Parrish is now in his 11th term of office as a state legislator. House Speaker Glenn Richardson recently appointed him to the Special Committee on Civil Justice Reform. He is presently serving as a member of the Economic Development and Tourism, Rules and Appropriations Committees.
Locally, Rep. Parrish has served three terms on the Swainsboro City Council. He has also served two terms as a member of the Georgia Department of Community Affairs and one term as its chairman. The legislator played an active role for the First Methodist Church in Swainsboro, serving on its Administrative Board. He is a past and present member of the Swainsboro Exchange Club and the Swainsboro/Emanuel County Chamber of Commerce. Rep. Parrish has been the honored recipient of several notable awards: the Distinguished Alumni Award in 1987 by the University of Georgia College of Pharmacy; the Wyeth Ayerst Pharmacy Community Service Award in 1992; made a Lifetime Honorary Member of the Georgia Sheriffs’ Association in 1998; was a recipient of “Champion for Georgia’s Cities” Award from GMA in 2004; and was a recipient of Georgia Hospital Association’s Legislative Leadership Award in 2004.
Rep. Butch Parrish was born and raised in Swainsboro, Georgia, and a graduate of Swainsboro High School. He later attended the University of Georgia, where he served as senior class president of the Pharmacy School. After graduating in 1964, he moved back to Swainsboro and began a career as a pharmacist the following year. Throughout the course of his career, Rep. Parrish has been an active member of many state and national pharmaceutical organizations. He currently serves as President of ShopRite Drugs, Inc., in his hometown.
The Swainsboro legislator is the proud father of a son and daughter and grandfather to five grandchildren.
