STATE REPRESENTATIVE JAMES MILLS: Paving the Way
Georgia State Representative James Mills (R-Gainesville) was recently reappointed as Chairman of the Banks and Banking Committee, but he is no stranger to serving in the House. First elected to the Georgia State Legislature in 1992, Representative Mills, who represents the 25th House District, already has 14 years of service on the Banks and Banking Committee under his belt.
The Banks and Banking Committee plays a major role in concerns of identity theft, consumer credit and other items regarding financial institutions. Chairman Mills also serves as Secretary of Rules, Appropriations, and the Ways and Means committees. Most recently, the Ways and Means Chairman appointed Rep. Mills to chair the Tax-Reform Subcommittee in the 2007-2008 session. Mills was appointed by the Speaker to serve on the powerful Committee on Assignments. Mills graduated from Johnson High School in Oakwood, Georgia and later attended Gainesville College and graduated from Mercer University.
He has led numerous overseas short-term mission trips through his local church to places such as Ukraine, Moscow, and Tasmania.
He is also involved in Community Youth activities, including little league baseball and football. The legislator owns and operates mini-storage warehouse businesses. In 2001, he was named Christian Coalition Legislator of the Year.
Chairman Mills is happily married to Rita for 22 years and is the father of four children, Micah, Moriah, Malachi, and MaryQuinn.
