Born and raised in Douglasville, Georgia, Representative Howard Maxwell has quite a long history of public service. Now serving his second term as a member of the Georgia State House of Representatives, Maxwell served as the Chairman of the Paulding County School Board for 5 years, and as Vice Chairman for 4 years. His 10 year involvement in the Georgia School Board Worker’s Compensation Fund included 5 years as Chairman. Most recently, he has extended his services to several House Committees. Maxwell is a member of the Appropriations, Banks & Banking, Education and Vice Chairman of the Insurance Committee.

The Vice Chairman has been an active part of several community and civic organizations as well. He is a member of the Dallas Rotary Club, Wellstar Paulding Hospital Board, the Georgia Association of Insurance Agents and Financing Advisors, American Legislators Exchange Council and the Paulding County Chamber of Commerce. Representative Maxwell was also in the United States Army, serving at the Republic of Vietnam from 1969-1970.

Upon completion of Dallas High School, Maxwell went on to attend Georgia State University, where he earned his B.B.A in accounting. He now has a career in Insurance. He has been blessed with 2 wonderful children and 3 grandchildren, whom the legislator very much enjoys spending time with. Outside of his legislative and professional activities, he also has an active interest in travel and reading.
