REPRESENTATIVE ED LINDSEY INTRODUCES LEGISLATION CALLING FOR JOINT COMMITTEE ON JUDICAL ELECTION REFORM

ATLANTA—Georgia State Representative Edward Lindsey (R – Atlanta) formally introduced House Resolution 47 this week, which calls for a joint Senate-House Study Committee on judicial election reform.  If passed, the committee would focus on the merits of the proposed HB 97 and HB 102, which were formally introduced by Representative Lindsey earlier in the week.  The committee would also study any other suggested reforms to enhance judicial elections.

The committee would consist of three members each from the House and Senate selected by the Speaker and Lt. Governor, and will be assisted by a 16 member advisory committee of judges, lawyers, business leaders, the Secretary of State, and members of the general public appointed by the Governor.

“This study committee is another important part of making sure that the legislation passed in the General Assembly is the right way to go about judicial election reform,” Lindsey said.  “I look forward to helping the study committee, as well as hearing their thoughts on the reforms.”

The legislation is co-sponsored by several legislators, including Representatives Steve “Thunder” Tumlin (R – Marietta), Rob Teilhet (D – Smyrna), Stephanie Stuckey Benfield (D – Decatur), Robert Mumford (R – Conyers), Joe Wilkinson (R – Sandy Springs), and Harry Geisinger (R – Roswell).
