Representative Jeanette Jamieson

First elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in 1984, Representative Jeanette Jamieson is currently serving her 11 th term. Jamieson presently serves as a member of the Education, Ways & Means and Human Relations & Aging Committees of the House.

Prior to her election to the Georgia General Assembly, Mrs. Jamieson served for 6 years on the Stephens County Board of Commissioners. She has been a participant in the “Leadership Georgia” Program and has been recognized throughout the United States for her work on behalf of development in the rural areas of Georgia and the nation. Jamieson serves as President of the Georgia Resources Conservation and Development Council. She was invited to appear before the Board of Harvard University to make a presentation on behalf of rural development. The program she represented was recognized in the fall of that year as one of the ten most innovative programs in the United States in the delivering of service to local governments. This recognition came from a field of 1,925 entries. Mrs. Jamieson was invited to receive the President’s Award for Innovative Government from President George W. Bush in honor of her role in Rural Development.

During her service in the House of Representatives, Jamieson has been selected as Legislator of the Year for her work on behalf of the Mentally Ill and Mentally and Physically handicapped. She has also been nominated for the Chevron Awards Program which recognizes volunteers who contribute time and effort to rural development programs and received a one-time award from the United States Department of Agriculture for leadership throughout the United States in development of a rural fire protection program which results in an insurance savings of 45-50% of the premiums paid. She was invited to the 2003 Sustainable Development session of the United Nations to make a presentation.

In acknowledgment of her contribution to transportation and to her district, the Georgia Department of Transportation Board of Directors named the intersection of Highway 123 and Highway 365 as the Jeanette Jamison Intersection. The North Georgia Realtor’s Association voted her Citizen of the Year from Stephens County. The Georgia Pharmaceutical Association selected Mrs. Jamieson as their Legislator of the Year, recognizing her work in the exemption from sales tax of wheelchairs, hospital beds and oxygen. Mrs. Jamieson was invited to participate in the National Leadership Summit of the American Legislative Exchange Council. Representative Jamieson became the first woman n the state’s history to be elected as President of the Georgia Association of Conservation District Supervisors.
