State Representative Penny Houston represents the 170th district of the Georgia House of Representatives. She serves as Vice-Chairman of the House Agriculture & Consumer Affairs Committee. Representative Houston is currently serving on the following committees: Agriculture and Consumer Affairs, Appropriations Secretary, Education, and Banks and Banking. She also serves on the Special Committee for Civil Justice Reform and the following study committees: State Health Benefit Plan, Grady Hospital, Medical Education. Representative Houston also serves on the Special Committee on Certificate of Need.
Representative Houston is a graduate of Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri with an A.A degree and the University of Georgia with a B.S. in education. She has three children, “Bo” Houston, IV, Lowery May, and Adam Houston, and three grandchildren.
Making Nashville, Georgia, and Berrien County her home, Representative Houston is tremendously involved in her local community. A member of the Nashville Methodist Church, Representative Houston is known for fighting to protect the children of her community and the state of Georgia. She is on the Board of Trustee's for the Georgia Sheriff Ranch, a former director of the Georgia Sheriff's Youth Homes, and spent eight years as a member of the Berrien County Board of Education.
Representative Houston is a member of the Overview Committee of the Georgia Tobacco Community Development Board and also serves on the Overview Committee of the One Georgia Authority. Representative Houston has recently been appointed to the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education Board of Directors.
