Representative John Heard

Vice Chairman Appropriations
HD 104 (R - Lawrenceville)
Chairman Information and Audits
HD 104 (R- Lawrenceville)
Representative John Heard was first elected to the Georgia House of Representatives in November of 2002. The Georgia native grew up on a farm in Cherokee County. After graduating from Cherokee High School, Heard went on to attend Young Harris Junior College and later earned a degree in Architecture from Southern Tech in 1978. He has maintained a successful career as an architect for the last 30 years.
Although this is the first political office he has held, he was quite involved in local politics prior to running for office. In fact, he attributes his knack for politics to his architectural background. Part of being in his profession requires bringing together very diverse groups and having them collaborate to achieve one common goal. This skill transfers over very well to the political arena. During this session, Representative Heard will be serving as the Chairman for the Information and Audits Committee. He will also serve as Secretary of the General Appropriations Sub-Committee and as a member of the Environment and Natural Resources and State Institutions and Property Committees. House Speaker Glenn Richardson recently appointed Representative Heard to the Georgia Technology Oversight Committee.
He has been married for the past 26 years to Debbie Heard, and the couple have 2 daughters, Jill, a law student at UGA, and Leigh, a 5 th grader in Lawrenceville. His wife has a master’s degree in Criminal Justice and is now a homemaker. Although Chairman Heard stays quite busy with politics, architecture and his family, his real passion is fishing. He very much enjoys the sport whether it’s the freshwater or salt water variety.
