HOUSE RURAL CAUCUS ELECTS TERRY ENGLAND AS CHAIRMAN

ATLANTA—Members of the House Rural Caucus today announced the election of officers for the 2007-2008 legislative session tapping State Representative Terry England (R-Auburn) as Chairman.

The Rural Caucus is a non-partisan caucus of legislators representing rural areas of Georgia.  Caucus members seek to educate their colleagues on how specific pieces of legislation will impact rural Georgia.  Access to rural health care, PeachCare for Kids and Certificate of Need (CON) will be issues of great importance to the Caucus this legislative session.  Education and transportation issues will also be important and watched closely this session.

“I am pleased to serve this caucus as Chairman and I look forward to working to educate my colleagues on the impact our legislation has on rural Georgia,” England said.  “The House will take up many serious issues this session and I look forward to working with my colleagues from rural districts as we strive to make Georgia a better place to live.”

Members also elected Representatives Jay Shaw (D-Lakeland) as Vice Chair, Barbara Massey Reece (D-Menlo) as Secretary and Tommy Benton (R-Jefferson) as Treasurer.
