Since beginning his legislative career in 1994, Representative Terry Barnard is serving his 5th term in the State House of Representatives for District 166. Terry is currently a member of the Natural Resources and Environment, Rules and Appropriations Committees, all of which he is a veteran activist. He is also the Chair of the State Institutions and Property Committee. Chairman Barnard has served 8 of his 10 years on this committee as ranking Republican.
During his time in office, Terry has been extremely active in sponsoring several legislative bills that eventually became state laws. He worked to pass Georgia’s registry for sexual predators and child molesters and was successful in helping to pass a bill that ensures extra protection for children in day care. He was also triumphant in aiding the passage of an amendment which protects consumers and financial institutions from predatory lending.
Representative Barnard has worked in the financial industry for more than 18 years now. He has been the Vice President and Branch Manager of First Citizens Bank for over 10 years, where he is responsible for all aspects of lending and collecting. Born in Reidsville in 1957, the representative now resides in Glennville with his wife, Susan. He is a member of a local Baptist Church.
