A RESOLUTION


Recognizing and commending the 2007 Georgia School for the Deaf football team; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the 2007 Georgia School for the Deaf football team was awarded the National Eight-Man Deaf Prep Football Championship, the third national football title that the school has won; and

WHEREAS, the team finished the season with an outstanding 7-1-0 record and defeated schools from six different states; and

WHEREAS, the team won under the outstanding direction of Athletic Director and Head Coach Erik Whitworth; assistant coaches Sidney Sharp, David Conti, Eugene Neal, B. B. Chubb, and Shawn Self; and team managers Ben Key, Dee Hosley, Wesley Johnson, Jonathan Adkins, and Nestor Cacho; and

WHEREAS, four of the team members, Patrick Bryant, Andy Sugg, Timothy Simmons, and Andrew Henderson were selected as members of the 2007 Deaf All American Team; and

WHEREAS, Timothy Simmons was named to the first team of the Rome News Tribune's All-Area Team; and

WHEREAS, the other players on this team of champions include Argenis Baena, Westley Blankenship, Charlie Chandler, Jason Crosby, Jeremy Crosby, Davion Gilling, Ryan Hall, Jabril Moss, Matthew Powers, Jonathan Roach, Javante (Jay) Roberson, Edward Snipes, Brandon Stevens, Eric Welch, and Eric Williams; and

WHEREAS, in a world which consistently seems to accentuate the negative aspects of the actions of young people, it is abundantly fitting and proper for this body to recognize with particularity the outstanding accomplishments of this extraordinary team of individuals.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize and commend the 2007 Georgia School for the Deaf football team on their outstanding accomplishments.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the 2007 Georgia School for the Deaf football team and their coaching staff.
