RESOLUTION
Commending
the Murphey Candler Little League organization on its 50th anniversary; and for
other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the Murphey Candler Little League organization has established and maintained a
proud tradition of excellence in Little League baseball; and
WHEREAS,
beginning as Brookhaven Baseball in 1958, Murphey Candler Little League has
grown immensely since its inception; and
WHEREAS,
Murphey Candler Little League reached a peak of about 1,100 boys in the late
1970s, eventually leveling off to the size it is today; and
WHEREAS,
today Murphey Candler Little League plays host to over 850 kids on 71 different
teams in six leagues, playing on seven different fields in late February through
early May; and
WHEREAS,
after the regular season, Murphey Candler Little League traditionally fields a
number of tournament teams, ranging from ages eight to 12 years old, to play in
official Little League sponsored tournaments; and
WHEREAS,
Murphey Candler Little League is a volunteer organization, very much a family
affair, and parental participation is highly recommended; and
WHEREAS,
in addition to the park's 30-plus member board of directors and 20-plus member
Women's Auxiliary, each team has a manager, coach of record, assistant coach,
team mother, business manager, field representative, family day chairman,
picture day chairman, team reporter, and scorekeeper; and
WHEREAS,
this organization relies on a self-sufficient budget that rivals that of some
smaller businesses; and
WHEREAS,
all improvements over the last 50 years have been mainly built and maintained by
the parents involved in the program.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
Murphey Candler Little League on its 50th anniversary and commend its volunteers
for the outstanding services they provide to the youth in their
community.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Murphey Candler Little
League.
