RESOLUTION
Recognizing
GAcollege411 Day at the capitol; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia is committed to improving access to postsecondary education
for all Georgia residents; and
WHEREAS,
the future success of our young people depends on the availability, quality, and
accessibility to educational opportunities; and
WHEREAS,
in February, 2005, the Georgia Student Finance Commission, in collaboration with
other state agencies, launched a free and powerful online resource,
GAcollege411.org, with the mission of increasing access to postsecondary
education in the state; and
WHEREAS,
since its inception three years ago, GAcollege411 is the official source for all
information regarding state scholarships, grants, loans, and other financial
services; and
WHEREAS,
approximately 700,000 My411 accounts have been created to help students and
their families research, compare, and select a Georgia college or university,
apply for admission, and plan to finance higher education; and
WHEREAS,
with over 6.1 million site visits and 102 schools with live applications,
GAcollege411 is a one-stop shop where students can explore careers, plan
educational options, and prepare for college entrance exams; and
WHEREAS, GAcollege4l
1 continues to raise awareness on how to obtain a college degree for thousands
of Georgia citizens by ensuring greater access to information on applying,
planning, and paying for college.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
GAcollege411 Day at the capitol and the Georgia Student Finance Commission and
commend them for their efforts to ensure greater access to information on
education.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the Georgia Student
Finance Commission.
