RESOLUTION
Recognizing
and commending Mr. John Athon Cagle; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Mr. John Athon Cagle graduated from Georgia College in Milledgeville, Georgia,
with Bachelor of Science in health, physical education, and recreation;
and
WHEREAS,
he taught school at Pickens County High School from 1976 through 1978;
and
WHEREAS,
in 1979 he decided to change careers and was hired by the Georgia Bureau of
Investigation to work on the local violators squad; and
WHEREAS,
the following year, 1980, he was promoted to special agent and assigned to the
Metro Fugitive Squad, and in 1981, he transferred to the Gainesville Regional
Drug Enforcement Office; and
WHEREAS,
in 1993, he was promoted to assistant special agent in charge of the Appalachian
Drug Task Force in Cleveland, Georgia, but in 1997, he transferred back to the
Gainesville Regional Enforcement Office; and
WHEREAS,
while working he was attending Columbus State University and received his
master's degree in public administration from Columbus State University, and in
2002, he was promoted to Special Agent in Charge of Region 8; and
WHEREAS,
throughout his career he has received numerous honors and recognition including
being recognized by the Drug Enforcement Administration for his efforts in the
field of drug enforcement and receiving a special award of honor by the
International Narcotics Officers Association in San Diego, California;
and
WHEREAS,
for his participation in federal drug investigations in the Middle District of
Georgia and Northern District of Georgia, he received the Organized Crime Drug
Enforcement Task Force's Case of the Year award; and
WHEREAS,
Special Agent Cagle has testified as an expert in state and federal court cases
regarding methamphetamine distribution methods; he was instrumental in drafting
the current methamphetamine laws in Georgia; he has taught various courses in
major drug case investigations and preparation; and he participated in major
drug investigations around the country and around the world; and
WHEREAS,
Special Agent Cagle supervised the investigation in the Sue Ann Ray murder and
received the Director's Award in 2007; and most recently he was the Special
Agent in Charge of the Gary Hilton case; and
WHEREAS,
he has survived being shot at 19 times, but most importantly he is a cancer
survivor.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body recognize
Special Agent John Athon Cagle and commend him for his outstanding service to
the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, his community, the state, and our
country.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Special Agent John Athon
Cagle.
