A
RESOLUTION
Remembering
and honoring the life of Dr. Robert Alan Lipson; and for other purposes.
WHEREAS,
Robert Alan Lipson, M.D., was a gifted physician and a highly respected leader
of the Georgia medical community; and
WHEREAS,
after receiving his Doctor of Medicine from Tulane University School of Medicine
in 1971, Dr. Lipson honorably served his country as a physician and lieutenant
in the U.S. Army; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Lipson put his training into the service of his fellow citizens, practicing
medicine in Marietta, where he lived with his family since 1976;
and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Lipson became a committed champion for his community and for health care
above and beyond his own medical practice, serving as a member of the Cobb
County Medical Society, the Medical Association of Georgia, the American Medical
Association, the Governing Council of the American Hospital Association, the
Georgia State University Public Health Policy Committee, and on the Board of the
Georgia Department of Community Health; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Lipson became President and CEO of WellStar Health System Physician Group in
2001, a not for profit system that he helped create and that continues to serve
more than 1 million people in Cherokee, Cobb, Douglas, and Paulding counties;
and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Lipson was a devoted advocate of education and was instrumental in the
development of the physician executive Master of Business Administration program
at Kennesaw State University, where he was a member of the advisory board for
the executive MBA and nursing programs; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Lipson became an accomplished photographer whose work was the subject of
public exhibition; and
WHEREAS,
Dr. Lipson was a loving husband to Livvy, a proud father to Aaron and Rachel,
and a doting grandfather to Karen; and
WHEREAS,
the State of Georgia has lost one of its most dedicated and distinguished
doctors and community leaders; and
WHEREAS,
his vision, compassion, and charm can never be replaced.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body join
together to express their deepest regret at the passing of Dr. Robert Alan
Lipson and extend their most sincere condolences to his family.
BE
IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed
to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to the family of Dr. Robert
Alan Lipson.
