A RESOLUTION


Welcoming citizens and public officials from Macon and Bibb County, observing February 28, 2008, as Macon Day in Atlanta-Taste of Macon; recognizing the 2008 Cherry Blossom Festival; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, public officials and citizens from Macon and Bibb County annually come to the General Assembly to meet with the area's legislative delegation. A healthy democracy demands an active interchange of ideas between citizens and their elected representatives; and

WHEREAS, the views of elected officials from the counties and cities of the state are always deeply interesting to members of the General Assembly, and the citizens and public officials from Macon and Bibb County frequently offer invaluable advice and counsel to their legislative delegation on the annual legislative visit; and

WHEREAS, the officials and citizens from Macon and Bibb County have outstanding leadership in Mayor Robert Reichert and Charles Bishop, Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of Bibb County; and

WHEREAS, the legislative delegation from Macon and Bibb County annually awaits the citizens and local officials' delegation from Macon and Bibb County with eager anticipation both because of its invaluable advice and counsel and because of the culinary delights afforded by The Taste of Macon; and

WHEREAS, the legislative delegation then looks forward to returning home to see the annual blooming of the Yoshino cherry trees in Macon and Bibb County, a beautiful sight that signaling the arrival of spring in the State of Georgia; and

WHEREAS, the Cherry Blossom Festival is sponsored each year by the Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful Commission as a special celebration of the spring season, and throughout the year the citizens of Macon and Bibb County and the State of Georgia look forward to this period and to the enjoyment of the many festivities planned; and

WHEREAS, representatives of the city and county and the festival sponsors will again this year be distributing Yoshino cherry trees to members of the General Assembly and others in promotion of the festival, and this gesture is greatly appreciated as it contributes significantly to the beautification of the state; and

WHEREAS, it is appropriate that this body recognize this excellent tradition and express its appreciation of the many contributions made to the State of Georgia by the annual Cherry Blossom Festival.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body welcome the citizens and public officials from Macon and Bibb County, observing February 28, 2008, as Macon Day in Atlanta-Taste of Macon, and recognize the 2008 Cherry Blossom Festival.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit appropriate copies of this resolution to the Honorable Robert Reichert and the Honorable Charles Bishop.
