A
RESOLUTION
Commending
Mr. Varun Kumar Tah and other Atlanta Hilton Hotel employees; and for other
purposes.
WHEREAS,
on August 13, 2007, at approximately 11 o'clock in the evening, an Atlanta
Hilton security officer stopped a suspicious person while making security rounds
on the seventh floor of the hotel; and
WHEREAS,
as a result of the encounter, the suspicious person pushed the security officer
into a freight elevator and then attempted to rob him; and
WHEREAS,
when the elevator reached the lobby, the offender ran in the direction of the
front entrance of the hotel, at which time Mr. Varun Kumar Tah, the hotel
manager on duty, and several other hotel employees ran in the direction of the
front entrance and chased the suspect on foot for several blocks;
and
WHEREAS,
after finally apprehending the suspect and the arrival of the Atlanta Police
Department, it was discovered that the person who assaulted the hotel security
officer had an extensive criminal record including aggravated assault, armed
robbery, burglary, and theft by taking; and
WHEREAS,
while disregarding their own safety, the actions of Mr. Varun Kumar Tah and the
other hotel employees protected the well-being of the hotel's guests;
and
WHEREAS,
Mr. Varun Kumar Tah has a reputation of putting others first and himself last
and he lived up to this reputation with his actions this past
August.
NOW,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body commend
Mr. Varun Kumar Tah and the employees of the Atlanta Hilton for their brave and
selfless acts in the protection of the guests of the Atlanta
Hilton.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed to transmit an appropriate copy of this resolution to Mr. Varun Kumar Tah and the Atlanta Hilton.
